Roy Juarez, Jr. Receives Hardin-Simmons University’s 2025 Outstanding Young Alumni Award
We are proud to announce that Roy Juarez, Jr., CEO of IMPACTtruth and IMPACT Publishing, has been named the recipient of Hardin-Simmons University’s 2025 Outstanding Young Alumni Award. The honor recognizes Roy’s inspiring journey, his dedication to social justice, and his unwavering commitment to empowering youth and communities across the country.
From Homeless to Hope-Bearer
Roy’s path to this award is a powerful story of resilience. At the age of 14, he experienced homelessness, but through determination and the support of mentors and educators, he enrolled at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. He graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and immediately began dedicating his life to helping others, particularly homeless and at-risk youth.
In 2018, Roy released his memoir, Homeless by Choice: A Memoir of Love, Hate, and Forgiveness, which chronicles his personal transformation and has since become an Amazon bestseller. His message of perseverance and forgiveness has reached audiences nationwide through speaking tours, leadership programs, and youth empowerment initiatives.
Honored in Abilene
Roy was officially recognized at the Outstanding Young Alumni Awards Banquet on March 10, 2025, in Abilene. During his remarks, he acknowledged the people and community who supported him throughout his journey.
“I never imagined I would receive this kind of honor,” Roy shared during the ceremony. “No one succeeds alone. Every step I’ve taken has been possible because someone believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.”
That same week, Roy hosted a book signing at Seven and One Books, where he reconnected with students, faculty, alumni, and local residents—many of whom had supported him when he was still a student dreaming of something bigger.
Why This Award Matters
Hardin-Simmons University reserves the Outstanding Young Alumni Award for graduates who, within 20 years of completing their degree, have made significant contributions to their profession, community, or the world. Roy’s selection highlights not only his accomplishments but also the values of faith, grit, and service that define the Hardin-Simmons community.
